Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink Retires

Remember him? Well nothing much was mentioned about his retirement.

For me he was a real no-nonsense forward, sparkled in the premiership, securing his status as one of the most lethal goalscorers in the Premiership, with over 100 goals in spells for Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbborough. He also had a brief cameo for Charlton in the English top league.

Chelsea paid a record fee of 24 million euro for the Dutch striker. He played for five seasons at the London-based club and made an immediate impact. He scored 93 goals before changing clubs. His final Dutch cap, the 23rd, was when he played in Chelsea colours in 2002.

At the age of 36 he decided to hang up his boots and made a start in his coaching career. He is currently coaching at FC Twente alongside his old Boro coach Steve McClaren.

All the best Bro!!

Steve Gerrard Charged With Assault

Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain and England international footballer, has been charged with assault and affray, following a brawl outside a Merseyside nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.

Merseyside police said the 28-year-old midfielder, who has 70 caps for his country, was charged this morning along with two other men who had also been arrested after a "disturbance" outside a late-night bar in Southport, Merseyside.

The venue's DJ, a 34-year-old local man, required hospital treatment after suffering facial injuries.

The footballer may now face disciplinary action from his club; sources at Liverpool told The Times yesterday that Rafael BenÍtez, the club manager and a noted disciplinarian, would consider taking action if Gerrard were charged with any offence.

The question is, will this affect his performance in the coming months?
