Remember him? Well nothing much was mentioned about his retirement.
For me he was a real no-nonsense forward, sparkled in the premiership, securing his status as one of the most lethal goalscorers in the Premiership, with over 100 goals in spells for Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbborough. He also had a brief cameo for Charlton in the English top league.
Chelsea paid a record fee of 24 million euro for the Dutch striker. He played for five seasons at the London-based club and made an immediate impact. He scored 93 goals before changing clubs. His final Dutch cap, the 23rd, was when he played in Chelsea colours in 2002.
At the age of 36 he decided to hang up his boots and made a start in his coaching career. He is currently coaching at FC Twente alongside his old Boro coach Steve McClaren.
All the best Bro!!
